Art Quilt

Today, some of us gathered in the studio to start on an art quilt by McKenna Ryan. Home Tweet Home. I'm not sure what we were thinking when we decided to do this...so many little pieces to steam-a-seam but the end result is worth it. We are so used to whipping up our quilts quickly with all the modern methods and tools, that to actually sit for a full day and trace, cut out, and steam-a-seam the block...well you should have heard the chatter!

Here are my first two blocks.

I think I'm going to like this quilt...and the company we will keep as we make it together.

Good Friday to Easter Monday

The quiet, reflective solemnness of the Good Friday service is always accompanied with a hope in my heart that is waiting to burst forth on Easter Sunday morning. Amidst all the world's emphasis on bunnies, chocolate, eggs, earth day (what's up with that???), and so on and so forth, the Christian world remembers and celebrates the greatest event to take place so far in history. God came down, dwelt among us, and died for us. Just when I think I get it, another thought creeps in and I marvel at the unprecedented act of God incarnate dying...for you and for me.

Tomorrow morning the world will shout, "He is Risen!" He is risen indeed.

I decided to make my favorite cinnamon bun recipe for Easter weekend. They are waiting to go into the oven just now...

they will have to be tested...just to make sure all is well.

Away Again!

Ohio...Amish Country...a few friends...lovely vistas...shopping.

We took off and decided to explore Ohio Amish Country. It was a lovely trip, with lots of beautiful scenery, and of course several quilt shops.

And now that we are back, we are going to get together and sew a quilt to remember our trip by. Each of us was encouraged to go out side the box and purchase fabric that we wouldn't normally choose. Here's my choice!

We are calling our quilts Ohio Hot Flash.
Stay tuned!

Home Again

I have been away...hence the lack of posts.  I flew to the great Canadian west to deliver 4 quilts to 3 of my Calgarian grandchildren. They were all a hit! 2 for the new baby, one fishy quilt for the little grandson, and one spaceship glow-in-the-dark quilt for the eldest grandson. It was so much fun turning out the lights in his bedroom and seeing this quilt with all its stars and constellations glowing in the dark!

Sew, I am back home now, ready to start a new project. I guess I will always have a quilt or two to make for the grandkiddies - especially as they grow out of their baby quilts. I do think there's another little guy out west who would love to have a glow-in-the-dark spaceship quilt too. On my upcoming quilt shop hop with a few friends, I will keep an eye out for more of this fabric.
